Individually-tailored support with 1-to-1 tuition

I have a very limited number of 1-to-1 tuition slots where I offer individual Maths help with regular, hour-long, weekly lessons for students up to A-level. Mature students doing GCSE resits, Functional Maths or other Level 1/2 qualifications are also welcome.

As I’m winding down to retirement in summer 2026, I am currently only taking on new students who will be sitting their GCSEs or A-levels at that time.

My rates for academic year 2025/26 are as follows:

  • 1-to-1 tuition up to GCSE level (or other Level 1/2 qualification, e.g. Functional Maths or the QTS Skills Tests): £45 per hour
  • 1-to-1 tuition up to A-level (or other Level 3 qualification): £55 per hour

My teaching slots begin at either 16:10 or 17:20, Monday to Thursday, or I could accommodate a slot or two during school hours. I am happy to offer lessons either during term time only, or in (most) school holiday periods too… but if you require weekend tuition or a slot later in the evening then I won’t be able to help you.

All tuition is online; I use Microsoft Teams in conjunction with an online whiteboard called Pencil Spaces, which we use like a virtual exercise book. I’m based in Hall Green (B28), Birmingham, and the majority of my clients are fairly local, but your location – as long as you have a reliable Internet connection and suitable equipment – is immaterial.

Summary of terms & conditions

The first 1-to-1 lesson is normally offered as a trial on a PAYG basis (paid in advance). After that, lesson fees are due monthly in advance by bank transfer or standing order, and I require two paid lessons’ notice of termination. I require 48 hours’ notice of cancellation (to give me the chance to offer the slot to someone else), otherwise the lesson is chargeable in full. Frequent cancellations may result in your slot being offered to someone else. Of course, if I have to a cancel a lesson then I will either reschedule to a mutually convenient time or not charge for the cancelled lesson.
